Raymond of Marcus & Millichap: Awarded Rising Star Honor

Name: Britt Raymond Title: Senior Associate Company Name: Marcus & Millichap What year did you start your career in commercial real estate: 2012 What recent project or transaction are you most proud of? One of my greatest accomplishments in my life has been growing a team from 5 to 12 individuals within 3 years with agents covering the entire country while increasing the velocity of transactions every quarter. I am proud of the guidance I am able to provide to my mentees which helps accelerate their learning curves. I also oversee the team's organization strategies in serving to perfect the assistance that the agents receive and nurture them in adapting to their careers and building relationships with clients. What recent honor, achievement or recognition has meant the most to you and why? Marcus and Millichap's Rising Star Honor for 2014 - The award was given to me by the regional manager of the Northeast, JD Parker. It is bestowed upon an agent that has shown growth in sales volume, leadership and client service. I see JD and Marcus & Millichap as partners in my long-term business. It is an honor that they acknowledge my growth and offer support to me to achieve my goals. When you launched your own business what were some of the initial challenges and how did you overcome them? Public speaking. When I started in the industry I was shy and reserved. Public speaking was one of my weaknesses. I overcame my fear with extensive practice and third party help. Making 350 business development calls per week to investors I have never spoken with helped me grow my speaking skills. I also sought the help of coaches, speaking professionals and my peers throughout Manhattan. What has been your experience with having a mentor or being a mentor yourself? When I entered this business, I partnered with Preet Sabharwal of the National Retail Group and Net Leased Properties Group of Marcus & Millichap. His guidance allowed me to be the successful agent I am today. The most valuable lesson that I took away from this mentorship was the value of being an advisor to our clients. To do so, you must provide your clients with useful information about the industry that would not be readily available and to provide a wealth of knowledge about your business in such a way which sets ourselves apart from other agents. I began mentoring agents my second year in to pass on this useful skill with a focus on how to better service our clients by guiding new agents to become expert advisors as well. As a mentor, my main emphasis is educating agents as well as being a motivating business entrepreneur as this is a long term partnership. Being aware and accountable for everyone's own long term and short term goals helped me keep track of my own. Please reflect on a recent achievement and/or milestone for your company: When Marcus & Millichap went public two years ago on the NYSE: MMI, all the agents were excited, although no one really knew what would happen. Two years later, the rise in the stock price and the reaction from clients has been overwhelmingly positive. It's raised the profile of our company and allowed me to develop relationships with larger clients who are attracted to more professional and accomplished firms. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career and why? I have always felt invigorated by the energy and the drive from New York City. Everyone in this city works extremely hard. I always push myself to work harder than the person next to me. Working amongst some of the brightest and efficient people has made me effectively grow my business. What is the first thing you do when you arrive in the office in the morning? Plan my day. I arrive 30 minutes early to organize my day and to think of methods outside of the box to benefit my clients and better my business. What time management strategies do you find to be the most effective for you? I always recommend for everyone on the team to share their MS Outlook or personal calendar with one another. I follow my calendar schedule to a tee without straying. The transparency allows everyone in our team to be aware of our schedules since we travel frequently and are out of the office. What is the best advice you have received and who was it from? My father, who is a sports coach, always told me to "Go Hard!" List 3 women that you would like to have drinks / dinner with and where would you go? Coco Chanel (insight on being an entrepreneur and growing an empire), Ginni Rometty (guidance on leading the 23rd largest company in the world), Mia Hamm (advice on work ethic and commitment as she is one of the top women athletes of our time) - Corner Bistro for a bacon cheeseburger What is your favorite quote? "If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done" - Thomas Jefferson What did you want to be when you grew up? I have always wanted to be in real estate since I was a child.
