Racanelli Construction awarded contract to build $22 million cancer treatment center

Bay Shore, NY Racanelli Construction Co., Inc. has been awarded a $22 million contract to construct a new 48,000 s/f, one-floor cancer treatment center for the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Racanelli Construction, which has experience in medical facilities construction, is serving as the general contractor on the project which is located at 440 East Main St. The project began with the demolition of existing walls, slab, roofing and roof deck, as well as the removal of all asbestos-containing materials. The build-out of the cancer treatment center encompasses the construction of the following four quadrants: imaging, radiology, and medical oncology and infusion. The facility’s existing block building is being utilized and is fitted with a new façade finished with composite plank lap siding. Racanelli Construction is providing a full scope of services including: demolition, earthwork, landscaping, masonry, steel, aluminum storefront, carpentry, millwork and other finishes. Concrete was poured over helical piles to support the linear accelerator and CT simulator which accommodate the center’s radiation oncology specialties. Physicist designed radio frequency shielding, and radiation shielding protect the building occupants from medical equipment discharges. Racanelli is also installing a fire protection system, plumbing, heating, ventilating and air conditioning system, and an electrical service. The project is slated for completion in November.
