PWC holds Continuing Ed class presented by HAKS; Focused on "Understanding special Inspections"

PWC's Continuing Ed classes, launched in the fall of 2012, are developing a buzz in the industry. A record turnout at PWC's most recent program presented by HAKS, "Understanding Special Inspections," drew a crowd of architects, contractors and other professionals. Dorothy Wasiak, chair of PWC's Continuing Ed program and VP of PCGNY Corp., said, "Professionals coming to learn and receive credits discover that the classes are far more in-depth and engaging than they'd anticipated and that they offer an opportunity to meet a wide spectrum of the industry. Topics aren't just taught, they're also discussed from a collaborative perspective." Arbresha Djonbalic, AIA associate, project manager, special inspections, HAKS, was the lead instructor at the program. She said "It is beneficial to the AEC community to learn about the many changes and updates in the N.Y.C. building code regarding Special Inspections. It is far more stringent and the rules may be difficult to understand." She said too "it's a great and diverse crowd, the General Society is an appropriate, intimate space and the perceptive questions cleared up a lot of points." Paul Hoffmann, VP and manager, special inspections, HAKS, said, "The design community is faced with the decision of monitoring, choosing an inspector and being informed on updates. This is a great opportunity to give information that is often difficult to understand." Jim Ariola, senior principal with Stantec wanted to "expand my understanding of the recent changes" as did Karen Wright, an expediter with RH Consultants & Associates, who said, "I'm looking to familiarize myself in greater depth on the process." Arlene Chen of Cherry Development was also looking to expand her network, "I'm new to this industry. I want to meet other successful women professionals." After the program, the reviews were favorable. Tim Costello, operations manager, RJA, said, "It covered the topic and gave good examples. I'd rate it highly." Gabrielle Aversa, project coordinator with CIC said, "I especially liked the Q & A - the feedback was very informative, the questions were good and the presenters had the answers. I learned what every member of the team has to say." Sara Jazayeri, AIA, Studio 360, said, "It was helpful, well-presented, very interactive and hands-on. I learned as much from the Q & A as the presentation. This was my first class and it exceeded my expectations." Wayne Allen, president, W. Allen Engineering said, "This clarified what isn't always understood." The next PWC Continuing Ed class will be held on Wednesday, October 9th. The topic, "Use of Stock Components for Architectural Metalwork" will be presented by Julius Blum Co., Inc.
