Stalco Construction served as general contractor for the $5 million facility.
“We strongly believe in creating growth opportunities for the medical and bio-tech industries on Long Island and in the greater New York area. Our Innovation Center will foster new technology and product commercialization efforts for innovations obtained through academic research as well as developed by our commercial clients,” said MIDI principal Gregory Montalbano.
MIDI provides turnkey product development and commercialization consulting services for clients in the medical, life sciences, surgical, drug delivery, dental, home healthcare, biotech, and security markets. The FDA QSR and ISO 13485 compliant firm offers complete product development and innovation services, performed under stringent regulatory constraints and within rapid timelines.

The Innovation Center is located at 226 East Main St., within a new medical and life sciences building developed by Whitetop Mountain Professional Properties, an affiliate of MIDI. The property also houses a Northwell Health (formerly North Shore-LIJ Health System) diagnostic imaging center.
“The new building houses MIDI’s corporate offices, research, design and engineering studio, as well as a rapid prototyping lab containing the most advanced tools, technology, and 3D printing systems available today,” said MIDI principal Christopher Montalbano. “The facility will accommodate our growing staff of approximately 30 engineers, designers, software programmers, ergonomics specialists, market researchers, and support personnel.”
Stalco Construction served as general contractor for both the building and MIDI’s Innovation Center and offices. Kevin Harney, principal of Stalco, said, “The architecture of the new $5 million, 17,3000 s/f, one-story building reflects the colonial feel of the historic Village of The Branch neighborhood, which dates back to the late 1600s. The building’s façade features brickface, columns, and other ornamental architectural elements prevalent in the landmark structures neighboring the new development.”
“The structure’s foundation features reinforced-concrete footings and foundation walls,” said Stalco project manager Edward Dutton. “The building has a steel structural system and six-inch metal frame exterior walls with brick veneer, as well as colonial-style Fypon PVC trims. The façade also showcases masonry elements, EIFS finishes, columns, and two separate Kawneer architectural aluminum and glass entrances.”
MIDI’s facility features an open-space layout in the design studio section to promote collaboration between different specialized teams within the company. It also houses an engineering and design lab, which uses a computer-controlled rapid prototyping development process that includes 3D printing, as well as a manufacturing shop, a conference room with a teleconferencing system, and executive and administrative offices.
