Spotlights
With a small team of dedicated professionals and a vision of excellence in construction, Marco Martelli founded his own construction company in 1980. Over the next 30 years, Marco Martelli Associates, Inc. (MMA) developed into one of the most experienced and highly esteemed construction firms in the New York Tri-State area.
MMA has the ability to plan and manage every phase of any construction project. The company's depth of experience is reflected in projects ranging from new construction to the alteration and renovation of historic landmarks.
Based in New Rochelle, current MMA projects include IML Energy Conservation Project at Stonybrook University on Long Island and Village Care of New York, an out of the ground state of the art managed care facility on the lower west side of Manhattan.
MMA is an experienced LEED builder dedicated to a whole-building approach to sustainability, optimizing a building's overall environmental performance through sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selections and by maximizing indoor environmental quality.
"Our goal is to provide our clients with the finest building services and quality for the best price. Profit is a necessity in business; however, quality cannot be compromised to maximize it," said Martelli.
Martelli's core values of hard work, honesty and integrity were formed early on and strengthened by his life experiences. When he was a young man his family emigrated from Bologna, Italy to the United States where they launched several successful businesses, including a small construction company.
Working for 10 years as a construction supervisor in the family firm, Martelli learned everything he could about the business and is by trade a master carpenter. He immersed himself in every aspect, from hands-on labor to daily operations and overall project management.
A six year successful tour of duty in the Marine Corps Reserve also taught him the value of working with a team dedicated to principles of honor and excellence.
Martelli co-founded Ormar Building Corporation in Westchester County in 1970. Together with his partner, he specialized in new construction and custom renovations for the next 10 years. Clients included New York's renowned Plaza Hotel, Sloan Kettering Institute and Rockefeller University.
In 1980 Martelli took the further step of founding his own company. He surrounded himself with experienced professionals and developed MMA into one of the premier general contractors and construction managers in the New York Tri-state area.
The mission statement for MMA reads: "We have a commitment to provide the best possible construction services to each client by utilizing every available resource and staffing each project with a seasoned team of professionals trained to minimize time, construction delays and cost overruns without compromising quality."
As a result of his varied experiences, Martelli is the rare type of executive who understands every aspect of his trade. He has directed and managed all aspects of the company's operations and disciplines to maximize the organization's growth and diversity.
Martelli is also a leader who is committed to the safety and well-being of his employees and takes a personal interest in their training and advancement.
While MMA has the capacity and experience to build anything, the majority of their current projects are in the medical, institutional, infrastructure upgrades and energy conservation sectors. The complexity and diversity of MMA projects keeps the firm on the cutting edge of product advances and technology and provides access to competitive resources.
MMA's commitment to excellence and client satisfaction has paid off as over 80% of their business results from referrals from former clients.
"I believe that what will take us through the current economic downturn is our reputation for excellence and integrity as well as our diversity within the market," said Martelli.
Martelli has many distinguished projects in his portfolio and has received notable awards from New York State, the City of New York and the New York City Landmarks Commission for building excellence, craftsmanship and safety.
Martelli shares the pride of his accomplishments with his wife and three grown children. He is looking forward to the future and to having the time to pursue a number of lifelong interests.
His interests and passions are as diverse as his accomplishments. Martelli is the eldest son of the renowned Italian chef, Desdemona Martelli, a recipient of the highly prized Bolognese Culinary Award and has inherited her gift of culinary skill and love of cooking. Martelli is also a natural horticulturist with two green thumbs who grows beautiful orchids in his greenhouse to the delight of friends and family.
He is passionate about boating and plans to spend time in the future cruising both near and far. His other main interests are scuba diving, fishing, history, archeology and reading.
One day Martelli also hopes to lend his diverse skills and experience to volunteer work for a non-profit organization such as Habitat for Humanity.
"There is a great sense of satisfaction in seeing the tangible result of a vision come to form and in participating in a project that will improve people's lives," said Martelli.
