What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?
Drifters Restaurant located on Middle Country Rd. The existing McDonald’s was renovated and added onto creating a new American and seafood restaurant. Natural materials were incorporated into the exterior while the McDonald’s roofline was removed to create a new inviting appearance.
Tell us about a mentor or role model that has influenced your career choices?
John Mahler, principal of JM2 Architecture has taught me every step along the way. Whether it has been a large-scale commercial project or a small-scale residential project, he has helped me learn to value every project as a unique challenge.
What 3 skills do you consider the most important to be successful in your industry?
Time management, customer service, and critical thinking. It is important to know how to juggle several projects at once while striving for customer satisfaction. Architecture requires critical thinking on each project whether it is coming up with feasible designs, addressing code & zoning issues, or reacting to clients needs/schedule.
What is one lesson that you had to learn the hard way?
Not every project goes perfectly or as expected. There will always be unforeseen issues which come up during a design/construction project. It is all about how you react and solve these problems to ultimately reach the clients goals and satisfy the end user.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I enjoy golf, basketball, drawing/painting, travel, and walking on the beach.
