In the last 12 months, what was your TOP career highlight? The redevelopment of 34 Desbrosses St., a 200,000 s/f luxury residential complex in Manhattan, was my most interesting recent project. During the pre-construction phase, Wesbuilt developed a BIM model that incorporated 3D scans of existing conditions and new architectural/engineering designs. This model, with complete measurements of the existing infrastructure, has allowed Wesbuilt’s construction team to proceed on an accelerated schedule.
In the last 12 months, what ONE award were you most proud to receive? ENR New York magazine recognized Wesbuilt as the 2022 Contractor of the Year. Our firm’s innovative BIM modeling process and incorporation of digital tools into the daily construction practice have strongly influenced the jury of the AEC industry’s top leaders. I am very proud of this recognition of both my firm and its BIM work.
In the last 12 months how have you helped your industry grow through professional creativity, innovation and leadership? Wesbuilt is at the forefront of employing digital processes in the construction industry. We routinely test new software and equipment.
As a result, Wesbuilt recently adopted the Clearedge 3D Edgewise software, which very efficiently extracts existing conditions and measurements from 3D Point Cloud data. This enables a more efficient scan-to-BIM process and accelerates project starts and delivery.
What advice would you give the next generation of women in your industry? As a recent young female immigrant from Ireland, I was positively surprised by the U.S. construction industry’s readiness to adopt new technologies and welcome professionals from a variety of backgrounds. The industry offers incredible career opportunities to female professionals proficient in digital methodology. My advice to young professionals: continue learning, be creative, trust your expertise, and take on new challenges.
