Nominee’s Name & Job Title: Jeremy Katz, Co-Head
Nominee’s Company/Affiliation: CP Capital US
Nominee’s City & State of Employment: New York, NY
Describe what you would consider to be ONE of your top career highlights:
Managing the sale and rebrand of our company from HQ Capital Real Estate to CP Capital US. The M&A process is grueling, and navigating that while also running the business, keeping employees engaged, and fostering a positive and optimistic environment during a global pandemic was no easy task.
What was the most difficult experience you have encountered as a leader?
Stepping into the role of co-head after being tapped by CP Capital’s founder. Being her successor and having virtually no leadership experience made trying to fill her shoes feel insurmountable. Shortly after I stepped in, she passed away, so the combination of feeling unprepared and losing a mentor was difficult.
What advice would you give the next generation of leaders in your industry?
Be authentic. When becoming co-head, I embraced that the company would be different than it was under the founder. I learned that if you’re open and honest about your aspirations, concerns, and principles, the team will follow suit and foster a culture based on strong values and trust.
What leadership role outside of the workplace is most rewarding to you?
My role as vice chair of the ULI Multifamily Bronze Council. In this capacity, I have the opportunity to share ideas and interface with the most influential leaders in the industry while helping to shape programming. It’s both illuminating and energizing.
