What leadership role outside of the workplace is most rewarding to you?
I’ve been on the Board of Directors of the ACE Mentor Program for nearly 20 years. I take great satisfaction from providing guidance and direction to high school students who have an interest in architecture, construction, and engineering. Seeing them grow and mature from high school thru college and into the industry is very rewarding.
What advice would you give the next generation of leaders in your industry?
My advice to the next generation leaders is to be attentive to the needs of your most valuable asset—your employees. Your employee’s commitment to the organization’s success is dependent on their relationship with their managers and supervisors. Show employees that you genuinely care, lead with empathy.
What was the most difficult experience you have encountered as a leader?
One of the most difficult experiences was leading the firm through the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Overnight we had to adapt to a new way of working while being concerned for the personal well being of our staff. We established new routines that allowed the staff to be safe, maintained communications and supported our clients’ needs.
