How do you contribute to your community or your profession?
As an architect, I have the unique opportunity to design and create spaces for our community. Whether it’s a growing family moving to the suburbs, or a company seeking property for a new commercial building, the care others entrust in me is something I don’t take lightly. I have a code of ethics in my profession, including obligations to the public and to the profession, and coupled with continuing education, I’m constantly growing and learning new ways to contribute to my community. JM2 also contributes and attends numerous charities and fundraiser events every year, and giving back to those less fortunate is something I feel strongly about.
Top three things on your bucket list:
See the eight wonders of the world; dine at Alinea in Chicago; and lead a major design project in another country.
What led you to your current profession?
While I was in high school, I wanted to be a math teacher. I always excelled in math and science, and teaching others was something I was excited about. However, in Junior year I was introduced to an architecture course. I feel in love with the marriage of design and math/science, and realized it was a profession I wanted to join. Also, as a musician, I’ve had a lifelong passion for creativity and design provides that same feeling.
What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud to officially hold a license in architecture in the state of New York. This achievement is the culmination of over ten years of education, experience and exams. As a member of the American Institute of Architects, I’m connected to a network of industry professionals and have access to multiple resources and events. While I’m certainly proud of the hundred of square feet of residential and commercial design I’ve had the pleasure to create, my license is an achievement I will treasure for the rest of my time in architecture.
Who was/is your mentor and how did s/he influence/help you in your career?
My mentors are John Mahler and James Manicone, as they both provided me with so many incredible opportunities during my eight years at JM2 Architecture. The level of trust they’ve given me to make decisions and confidence instilled in me truly is the reason I’ve met my goals and will continue to grow.
