New York, NY EP Engineering, a leading MEP and fire protection engineering firm, is proud to win the NYSERDA Building of Excellence Awards on two of its projects: 699 St. Marks and Hudson Hill. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) promotes the energy-efficient utilization of renewable resources, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing residents with an affordable energy system. The Building of Excellence Awards recognize the design, construction and operation of low or zero carbon-emitting projects.
EP Engineering worked closely with Westhab and Amie Gross Architects on the construction of Hudson Hill at 76 Locust Hill Ave. in Yonkers. The affordable housing project promises a highly sustainable design for 113 affordable studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Funding for the project was received from New York State’s Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative, which will allow a portion of the available units to be allocated to formerly homeless tenants. NYSERDA awarded $1 million for the completion of the project.
“Hudson Hill is an affordable environmentally-friendly project, strategized to increase sustainable living by lowering the building’s carbon footprint and decreasing energy consumption,” said Evan Parganos, senior partner, EP Engineering. “This is an immensely impactful project for the community and we are honored to take part in delivering it.”
EP Engineering also worked alongside Cycle Architecture and developer Masmark on 669 St. Marks, a multifamily building at 669 St. Marks in Brooklyn. This project is a high-performance, innovative building, constructed to Passive House standards and aimed at utilizing energy-saving measures. NYSERDA has awarded $238,920 for the completion of the building.
“This Passive House building will provide consistency in temperature and better indoor air quality throughout the apartments through sustainable principles,” said Chris Burgess, partner, EP Engineering. “We are grateful to NYSERDA for recognizing this project’s innovation and we are proud to help deliver this for our client.”
