FXFOWLE International's proposal for the architectural design of a 1.7-kilometer long (1 mile) and 205-meter tall (673 feet) bridge in Dubai was selected by the country's Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) in a major international design competition. The firm's winning bridge design is poised to join five existing Dubai Creek crossings (four bridges and one tunnel), further advancing the infrastructure and transportation initiatives in Dubai, UAE. FXFOWLE's design for the Sixth Crossing at Dubai Creek makes it the largest and tallest spanning arch bridge in the world. "We are extremely pleased and honored, that our design for Dubai Creek's newest Crossing Bridge will be adopted by the Roads & Transport Authority," said Sudhir Jambhekar, FAIA, LEED, senior partner at FXFOWLE International. The Sixth Crossing at Dubai Creek will unite the areas of Jadaf on the Burj Dubai Side to the west of the creek to the developments of the Lagoons and Festival City to the east. The crossing bridge will provide six traffic lanes in each direction plus two lanes for the extension of the city's Green Metro network as well as a sustainable transportation station, pedestrian walkways, and at its midpoint, an amphitheatre, ferry terminal, and multi-modal access to one of the world's future leading cultural institutions - The Dubai Opera House.
