Lina Gottesman, president and founder of Altus Metal, Marble and Wood, a woman-owned business enterprise (WBE) with offices in Smithtown and Long Island City, has received an Achiever Award from the Long Island Center for Business & Professional Women (LICBPW) in recognition of her outstanding achievement in business and her commitment to give back to the community. The honor was presented on May 6th at the LICBPW's 36th Annual Achievers' Awards gala at The Fox Hollow. Mary Hauptman, founder and CEO of Hauptman Realty, introduced longtime colleague Gottesman saying that she "excels in everything she does" and has attained "goals people would think a woman cannot achieve." Gottesman expressed pride in Altus' work restoring some of the city's most iconic structures including "Grand Central Terminal, the NYC Public Library, Columbia University and the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site." She credited the continuous support as well as the inherited "drive and ambition" of her family for her success, and thanked her husband and Altus vice president, Robert Gottesman, and their three children, for encouraging and enabling her to pursue her vision and see it realized. Event co-chairs, Elaine De Luca Byrnes, chief marketing officer at Markowitz, Fenelon & Bank, LLP, and Hauptman noted that each achiever "has pushed the boundaries set before them and has broken the glass ceiling for those who follow." Anita Marco, president of the LICBPW, said that the women honored have "risen to the top of their chosen profession, and yet still found time to enrich the lives of others through their humanitarian efforts." The LICBPW is dedicated to expediting the advancement of women to equal participation in business, industry and the professions.
