Diversified fenestration manufacturer Northern Architectural Systems has been chosen to provide 3,000 custom windows as part of the overall rejuvenation of the McGraw-Hill Building on 42nd St. Northern's design team worked with the building architect and the landmark commission to design a new window system that would replicate the original steel Campbell windows in close detail and incorporate high energy efficiency framing and glazing. The McGraw-Hill Building was one of four N.Y.C. building projects designed by architect Raymond Hood. It was given landmark status because of its "Moderne" style and use of blue-green glazed terra cotta tiles as an exterior façade. Other Hood buildings in N.Y. are the Radiator Building, parts of Rockefeller Center and The Daily News Building which already has windows manufactured by Northern. "We are very proud and excited to be part of this remarkable restoration project" said Northern president Robert Pecorella. "It will be a long-lasting testament to the creative talent in our Design Engineering Department and is one more opportunity for Northern to help breathe new life into wonderful buildings that might otherwise fall into disuse and decay."
