The first two Cambria Suites hotels in the borough, both designed by Gene Kaufman Architect, P.C. (GKA), are underway in Chelsea and Midtown. Choice Hotels International, Inc. which owns the Cambria Suites brand is making a major investment in the city, demonstrating the continued strength of the tourism and hospitality industries and the continued demand for new hotels.
"With occupancy rates at exceptional levels and demand for Manhattan hotel rooms expected to continue to grow each year over the next five years, brands like Cambria Suites are making wise investments in the city," said Gene Kaufman, founder of GKA. "For a brand that is making its N.Y.C. debut, we have focused on creating a fresh, transparent design that is meant to feel light, airy and welcoming to guests."
The Midtown location at 30 West 46th St. is west of Fifth Ave. and two blocks from Times Sq. The hotel will offer 196 suites. The hotel is slated to open in the winter of 2014.
The Cambria Suites-Chelsea is situated on West 28th St. between 6th and 7th Aves. in Chelsea's Flower District. The 18-story hotel which will combine brick and glass façade details will welcome guests with a cantilevered metal panel canopy. It will include 135 suites and will feature two courtyards, a roof terrace, a fitness center and a restaurant/bar. The opening is expected in the spring of 2014.
