Ones to Watch Fall 2022: Amanda Loomis, SWBR

Amanda Loomis
Certified Interior Designer
SWBR

What recent project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my recent partnership with The Green House Project and both the educational webinar and conference session I was able to develop and present with them that helped to educate the community about designing beautiful and safe environments for seniors.

Tell us about a mentor or role model that has influenced your career choices?

One of the biggest influences on my career came from a mentor who challenged me to take chances. One example is when he said I should start doing public speaking engagements at conferences. That was not on my goal list for a few years, but by offering to provide insight from his experience I was set up to succeed and accomplish that goal.

What 3 skills do you consider the most important to be successful in your industry?

I think problem solving, time management, and presentation skills are the most important skills to be a successful interior designer. You need to be able to solve the design problem by a certain deadline and be able to explain your solution in a clear and meaningful way.

What is one lesson that you had to learn the hard way?

I think the hardest lesson is learning that not everyone communicates in the same way as you, so there is additional effort that needs to be put in to understanding your teammates and how they work to make a really successful team experience.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I enjoy spending most of my personal time with my family. I also, like to find other creative outlets like refurbishing old furniture or doing an at home diy project.
