NYSCAR holds first meeting of the year February 9th

By John Lavelle Our first meeting of the year was held on February 9th at the Desmond Hotel in Albany. The officers and governors were installed for the year (president, John Lavelle, Pine Bush; first VP, Brian DiNardo, Rochester; second VP, Guy Blake, CCIM, Newburgh; treasurer, Greg Oehler, Rochester and secretary, James Walker, Glenham). The following members will serve a three year term on the board: Scott Burdett, Rochester; James Knight, Buffalo; Donald Welch, SIOR, Albany and Ted Welter, CCIM, CPM, Rochester. The Technology Committee, chaired by governor Nick DeMarte (Albany) have been working hard to upgrade the association's website! We'll keep you posted on the progress. REALTOR of the Year Dana Crocker, (Hunt Commercial Real Estate, Liverpool, NY) is the recipient of the New York State Commercial Association of Realtors 2013 Realtor of the Year Award. The award was presented to Dana by the 2012 Realtor of the Year recipient, Ted Welter, CCIM, CPM, (Rochester) during the Albany meeting. Dana was instrumental in organizing the Syracuse Area Chapter of NYSCAR and currently serves as president of the Chapter. Johnson Honored Michael Johnson (Realty USA, Lewiston, NY) was honored with a past president's plaque for his untiring efforts on behalf of the association while serving as president in 2012-2013. John Lavelle, 2014 president of NYSCAR presented Johnson with the plaque on behalf of the membership. Mark those dates! The Hudson Valley Annual education/investment property marketing event will be held in Fishkill at the Hyatt House Hotel, April 2nd-3rd. Gary Vandenberg, SEC will present "Wealth Creation Strategy Through Investment Real Estate Ownership." This six-hour course, which has been submitted to NYS Department of State for continuing education credit, will be held on April 2nd and an investment property marketing session on the 3rd. On April 24th NYSCAR and the Syracuse Region Chapter will present "Introduction to Creative Marketing of Commercial Real Estate" at the Ramada Inn on Buckley Road. The course will be instructed by Robert Giniecki, CCIM, SEC and James Walker. The 13th Annual NYS Commercial Real Estate Conference will be held June 2nd - 4th the at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona. The committee, chaired by Brian DiNardo has been meeting via conference call to plan details for this year's event. Preliminary plans include a full-day investment property marketing session and several commercial classes that will carry continuing education credit. This is a great opportunity to do some business and learn something new. Be sure to mark your calendar! Please watch www.nyscar.org for details. With the Syracuse Region Chapter, there are now 7 NYSCAR chapters throughout the State. The Syracuse Chapter (Dana Crocker, president) joins Greater Capital (Nick DeMarte, president), Hudson Valley (Jay Feinberg, president), Long Island Metro (Ed Smith, Jr., president), Rochester Area Chapter (Mercedes Brien, president), So. Tier (Doug Rein, president) and Western NY (Bob Strell, president). Be sure to check with your local chapter for meetings and events.
