On April 13, the N.Y. Chapter of the NYS Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE) is hosting a dinner and presentation by Deborah Taylor, AIA, LEED AP, and chief sustainability officer for the Dept. of Buildings. She will present "Everything you ever wanted to know about the new NYC energy regulations and related local laws, but were afraid to ask."
She will discuss N.Y.C.'s new energy efficiency legislation that mandates benchmarking, energy audits and retro-commissioning. All buildings in N.Y.C. over 50,000 s/f, except those participating in HPD programs, are required to have a comprehensive energy audit, and to file an energy efficiency report once every 10 years.
Taylor leads the N.Y.C. Dept. of Building's enforcement of the N.Y.C. Energy Conservation Code, serves as technical liaison to the mayor's office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability, as staff representative to the public/private mayor's Sustainability Advisory Board and as department representative on the Green Infrastructure Task Force. She has participated in the development of the landmark Greener, Greater Buildings Plan legislation to reduce energy use in existing buildings, for the Green Codes Task Force proposals and for the amendment of the NYCECC for 2010. Taylor has served on the Code Development Committee for both the 2009 and 2012 International Energy Conservation Codes and the 2010 State Energy Code. Currently Deborah serves on the Department's Buildings Sustainability Board to develop parameters for use of new sustainable technologies.
