Nanuet, NY Home décor superstore At Home opened its new, 101,488 s/f store at the Shops at Nanuet, 7100 Fashion Dr. Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021, according to property owner Metropolitan Realty Associates (MRA).
Located at the intersection of New York State Rte. 59 and Middletown Rd. off the New York State Thruway, the store is part of the former Macy’s department store, which has been redeveloped by MRA as a modern 220,000 s/f retail space with a two-story lobby.
“This is a fantastic day to celebrate a win for brick-and-mortar retail,” said MRA CEO and founder Joe Farkas. “The opening of the At Home store at the Shops of Nanuet demonstrates that there will always be a need for best-in-class retail store experiences in well located and designed centers across the country.”
MRA acquired the site in December 2018 in partnership with long time equity partners Angelo, Gordon & Co., LP, and simultaneously announced the lease to At Home as the new anchor. The company, well known for its work in reinventing properties to meet modern demand, gutted the building and installed new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and high-speed elevator and escalator arteries.
It finished the reconstruction of the former Macy’s store during the pandemic and worked closely with the development team of At Home to build out the interior in preparation for the grand opening.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann welcomed At Home to the Shops at Nanuet, saying, “We are pleased this property will continue to be a vibrant retail space, serving as an engine of economic activity and job creation for the Town of Clarkstown, Thank you to Joe Farkas and MRA for their vision and commitment to this project.”
Farkas—who has been recognized for his work redeveloping properties, including the former Stella D’oro factory in the Bronx—has been working with Supervisor Hoehmann and local authorities as part of a larger effort to rezone Nanuet as a Transit Oriented Development and create new jobs within the retail sector of the community. He also is assisting the Supervisor’s Business & Economic Development Advisory Committee.
The developer said the newly reconfigured retail hub offers At Home a space within a destination shopping center whose tenants include Stop & Shop, Regal Cinemas, 24-Hour Fitness and specialty retailers Apple, Coach, Michael Kors, Sephora, Starbucks, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, and P.F. Chang’s.
David Landes and Jeanine Kemm of Royal Properties serve as leasing agents for the property.
“With exterior branding opportunities, a new two-story lobby, a dog-friendly outdoor park, wireless technology to enhance the overall shopping experience and At Home serving as a premier anchor tenant, the remaining space will appeal to single or multiple retail users who are eager to be at the forefront of next generation retail,” said Landes.
