Long Island Commercial Real Estate Expo focuses on building a stronger, smarter and safer future

Anyone connected to Long Island's commercial real estate industry will want to mark Tuesday, March 12, 2013 on their calendar. That's the date of the 2nd Annual Long Island Commercial Real Estate Expo (LICREE) when executives and entrepreneurs representing all facets of Long Island's commercial real estate industry will gather at the Hilton Long Island, 598 Broad Hollow Rd. Organizers say the upcoming Expo, newly rebranded with a laser-like focus on building a stronger, smarter and safer future, will center around the changes, challenges and opportunities brought about by Hurricane Sandy. According to producer, Mark Neuwirt, "Hurricane Sandy has left us with a lot of damage to repair, and an urgency to correct shortcomings in our building techniques, infrastructure and systems, plus a need to review and revise our building codes, insurance and contractual obligations." Many improvements must be made if Long Island is to withstand superstorms like Sandy in the future, as well as other natural and man-made threats to our economy and very lives. Much new technology and many new products are available to protect against these inevitable occurrences. Information is available and needs to be disseminated if we are to be prepared to meet the challenges of the future. The LICREE will be a forum to meet this need. We will present CE classes that are designed to keep professionals abreast of the latest products and services as we enter our rebuilding and improvement phase. We will also have the latest products and services on exhibit in addition to valuable government resources." The LICREE-a unique educational and networking opportunity-is one of Long Island's only full-scale real estate expos breaking down silos bringing together all people across the broad spectrum of the real estate development process According to Neuwirt, "Our mission is to create a forum for discussion of issues that affect the business climate in general and our industry in particular. The Long Island Commercial Real Estate Expo is an effective and affordable way to promote yourself and maximize your exposure and visibility. We will aggressively promote the Expo in social media, newspapers, business and trade magazines, direct mail, online and via email blasts." The expo is presented by The New York Real Estate Journal and NYREJ Tech. Sponsors, exhibitors and presenters are currently being sought and early bird specials are available. When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
