Lobdell of Canstruction Long Island named "Woman of Distinction"
Tracy Lobdell, executive director of Canstruction Long Island, Inc., one of the country's most unique food charities, was honored as a "Woman of Distinction" by asssemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R, C, WF, I - Huntington Station).
Lupinacci honored 11 local women for their outstanding achievements in business, education, humanitarian work, military service, community/civic affairs, and healthcare.
"Our community is blessed to have tremendous women who have enhanced the lives of countless residents from Long Island and beyond," said Lupinacci. "These women are responsible for amazing acts of self-sacrifice and progress that have transformed our communities."
Lobdell was chosen for her tireless efforts to help feed the hungry on Long Island through her leadership at Canstruction Long Island, Inc., and as the founder of 100 Women Who Care about Long Island, a new philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting non-profits that serve Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
A Long Island native, she was propelled into action upon learning of the numerous area residents who need assistance in feeding their families. Since 2007, Canstruction Long Island has held its annual competition where teams of design and construction professionals, college students, and middle and high school students led by architects and engineers, showcase their talent and creativity by creating giant, self-supporting structures out of cans of non-perishable food. The cans used in Canstruction Long Island's Design Competition are donated to Long Island Cares/The Harry Chapin Food Bank to help feed the more than 300,000 Long Islanders that are affected by hunger and/or food insecurity. This year's event will take place on October 24 at RXR Plaza in Uniondale.
"I am truly honored to have been chosen by assemblyman Lupinacci as one of this year's 'Women of Distinction'," said Lobdel. "I thank Assemblyman Lupinacci and the selection committee for allowing me to be counted among this amazing group of women."
