LIREG, a real estate networking and philanthropic organization, donated $25,000 to each of these charities:
* Fitzgerald House, Brentwood, which is using the funds to renovate a home in Wheatley Heights for homeless veterans.
* Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center, East Hills, which is using the money to renovate and make handicap accessible a gym at its Bernice Jacobson Day School and Camp in Brookville.
* Family Service League, of
Huntington, which built a youth lounge and computer lab at its center in Bay Shore.
"We hope, that in addition to our organization's gifts to these worthwhile recipients, that our membership and the general public becomes familiar with the wonderful work of these charities and inspires additional private and corporate contributions," said David Einbinder, president of LIREG.
"Although there are many charities worthy of our efforts, these three stood out this year," said Peter Schapero, chairman of LIREG's charity committee. "We congratulate each of these organizations and thank them for the wonderful work they do in our communities."
The three charities were selected from a list of more than 15 organizations that submitted requests in 2009 for funding.
"The gift from LIREG helps us to help hundreds of teens in Brentwood and Bay Shore, who are exposed to gangs and violence," said Susan Edwards, vice president for development at the Family Service League. "Now, they have a place to go that's safe."
