Leibowitz of ML Realty honored by Hofstra University with Distinguished Service Award

Uniondale, NY Hofstra University’s George M. Estabrook Alumni Association, Inc. recently honored Maddy Leibowitz at the 57th Annual George M. Estabrook Distinguished Service Award Dinner The event was held at the Long Island Marriott, 101 James Doolittle Blvd. 

The keynote speaker was Lee Harris, Morning Drive news Anchor 1010 WINS NY.

Leibowitz received her bachelor of science in Education from Hofstra University in 1964, and has been an enthusiastic and active alumna for more than 50 years. Her involvement as an alumna began when she was appointed as president of the Delta Chi Delta Alumnae Association, a position she held for more than 40 years. Leibowitz was also a member of the board of directors of the Hofstra University Alumni Organization and its predecessor, the Alumni Senate, for many years, including serving two years as president of the alumni organization.

She was named Hofstra’s Alumni Organization Senator of the Year in June 1992. She received the Award for Alumni Achievement in fall 1998 and the first Lifetime Service Award in fall 2009. She is also a recipient of the Joseph M. Margiotta Distinguished Service Award. In addition, she became a member of the Hofstra Pride Club board of directors in 1993, and has served on the Hofstra advisory board.

Leibowitz is president and owner of the commercial real estate company ML Realty Group. The corporation handles the sale, leasing, developing, and consulting of real estate for office, industrial, and retail locations, as well as hotels, land, and investments all over the United States. She is also vice president for business development of family owned Atlantic Agency Insurance and Risk Management, which has offices in Huntington, North Babylon, and Riverhead.

Leibowitz is also affiliated with several professional organizations. She has served as past president and chair of the board for the City of Hope Suburban League chapter. She is a member of Professional Insurance Agents of New York (PIANY), serves as a member of several Suffolk County Chambers of Commerce, and is on the Board of Advancing Women in Science and Medicine (AWSM).

Together with Atlantic Agency, Leibowitz has organized many charitable endeavors, such as providing food for the Island Harvest Turkey and Trimmings holiday campaign, and serving on the organization’s Taste of Harvest committee to deliver boxes of toys to Little Flower Children and Family Services in Wading River at Christmas.  In addition, she and Atlantic Agency have co-sponsored “Cruising for Kids” with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.

In memory of her husband, Leibowitz established the Ira Leibowitz Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hofstra to assist undergraduate students with college expenses. Ms. Leibowitz has three children –  Jeffrey, Heidi, and Eric – who are married to Stacey, Kevin, and Toni, respectfully.  She also has six grandchildren – Chelsea, Skyler, Lexi, Jacob, Austin, and Seth.
