Apex, NC The Kalikow Group, a fourth-generation, New York development and management firm and Experience One LLC, has sold to Harris Teeter, a Matthews, NC-based grocer, 9.5 acres of land for a 64,000 s/f grocery store/gas station & parking lots. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Harris Teeter supermarket is part of the second phase of the Sweetwater Town Center and is slated for opening in late 2023/early 2024. An additional 11,200 s/f of retail space plus two outparcels will also be developed.
The first phase of the project, The East Side, initially consists of 4 mixed use buildings with 230 apartments and 66,000 s/f of retail space and an event lawn, are slated for early 2024 delivery. Seven signed retail leases to date including Duke Health (13,500 s/f), Club Pilates, Restore Hyper Wellness, Southern Peak Brewery, Fratellis Deli, Sushi Yaki and Royal Nail Spa and Lounge have been executed comprising 60% of the retail space. Lightbridge Academy occupies an 11,200 s/f building opened in 2021 on the site.
Sweetwater Town Center is a joint venture between The Kalikow Group and ExperienceOne Homes. The Town Center is situated on more than 40 acres located at the intersection of Highway 64 and Richardson Rd.

According to the Town of Apex, approximately 20,000 new residents have moved into the area in the last four years. In 2022, UpNest named Apex one of the best places to live in North Carolina.
Cline Design of Raleigh is the architect for the project. CE group is the civil engineer. Samet of High Point, NC is the general contractor. The lender is American National Insurance Company and owners’ rep is NEMA.
