Tobin joins SMRT Architects and Engineers as NY office director

Albany, NY John Tobin, AIA, joins SMRT Architects and Engineers as the firm’s New York office director.

An experienced executive with deep technical roots, Tobin brings a proven record driving large-firm operations management and technical innovation, with a focus on advanced delivery, lean principles, cross-discipline collaboration and the uses of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to optimize the design process. Tobin most recently was vice president of delivery and innovation at EYP, where he held technical and executive positions for over a decade. He previously taught architecture for 10 years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Tobin was a recent speaker on BIM and new uses of data at the 2018 BIMForum in Las Vegas. He currently serves on the NY State Board of Architecture and the Lean Construction Institute, Albany COP.

He holds a Master of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Architecture from Trinity College, Dublin.

He is a frequent writer and speaker on advanced delivery topics, including disruptive innovation, BIM, integrated project delivery and the application of data for building design.
