Innovation Highlight:
I’m most proud of how our expanded use of drones is changing the way we plan and build complex projects. In preconstruction, we fly sites to develop logistics plans for individual projects and master plans. Drones reach difficult-to-access areas and deliver detailed façade surveys faster and at lower cost than lift or scaffold supported inspections. During construction, regular flights help our teams track progress, plan upcoming activities, spot quality control issues, and keep owners and stakeholders informed with up-to-date visuals. The result is better information, earlier.
Looking Ahead:
What excites me most is the wider adoption of mass timber in the tri-state area. Recent code changes have opened the door, and projects are following. Our project at Brooklyn Public Library’s Canarsie Branch is one of the first public mass timber buildings in New York City, and a chance to show what this building type can do.
Mass timber presents unique construction challenges. Shawmut’s national mass timber portfolio lets our teams share best practices for project planning, MEP coordination, moisture mitigation, and quality control, helping set projects up for success.
