Nelson of Avison Young launches Internet radio show, “Real Estate Investing – Live from NY”

James Nelson,
Avison Young

New York, NY James Nelson, principal and head of tri-state investment sales at Avison Young has launched a new internet radio show, entitled “Real Estate Investing – Live from New York,” will be hosted by Nelson and broadcast on the VoiceAmerica Business Network. The program will teach listeners everything they need to know about investing and operating commercial real estate.

The weekly show will start with a recap of NYC commercial real estate news, followed by an investor spotlight with a legend in the business and then feature industry experts covering every aspect of the business. Listeners will be able to email in questions to [email protected].

The debut show featured commercial real estate development visionary Bruce Ratner.

He discussed his early teen years at the family building supply business in Cleveland through his first syndicate investment, concluding with his mega projects including the Barclay’s Center. Listeners will get to hear what it is like to work with star architects like Frank Gehry and Renzo Piano and even doing business with Jay-Z.

Other confirmed guests for the program include L&L MAG CEO MaryAnne Gilmartin and chairman and CEO of Stonehenge Partners Ofer Yardeni. Doug Marshall, author of Mastering the Art of Commercial Real Estate Investing, Derek Eakin, chief investment officer for RiverOak Investment Corp., Jordan Vogel, principal of Benchmark Real Estate Group, Jeffrey Ravetz, president of Girona Ventures, and Margaret Streicker, president of Newcastle Realty Services, Dan Hurwitz, founder of Raider Hill, also will be guests.

“There are hundreds of shows for investing in the stock market, but almost none for investing in real estate,” said Nelson. “Most of what’s out there is for get-rich-quick schemes or how to flip homes. I wanted to do a show that would appeal to aspiring real estate investors, as well as savvy real estate professionals.”  It comes at a time when stocks are being challenged as America’s favorite long-term investment and many investors are turning to real estate, according to a recent study by Banknote.

VoiceAmerica is the world leader in Live Internet Talk Radio over the last 20 years. “I’m looking forward to having James give our listeners a commercial perspective on the show,” said Vince Rocco, from Halstead, who currently hosts the residential show “Good Morning New York” on the network.

The “Real Estate Investing – Live from New York” program also will be available on a variety of podcast networks including Apple Podcasts, Google Play, TuneIn, Stitcher, iHeartRatdio and Spotify, and can be found at VoiceAmerica.

Nelson heads up a group of three dozen professionals in the sale of multifamily, office, development and retail properties at Avison Young.
