MAP tops off two projects: The Bedford and The Bryant

Bronx, NY According to Magnusson Architecture and Planning PC (MAP) two projects topped off this month: The Bedford and The Bryant.

The Bedford, a 13-story, 108-unit building will offer a mix of supportive, AIRS and affordable family housing with 68 studios, 21 one-bedroom and 19 two-bedroom apartments. Procida is the general contractor. Designed for HSI and Robert Sanborn Development, the project is set to achieve LEED Platinum, this transit-oriented development (subway is within 100 ft.) includes a photovoltaic array and two non-accessible green roofs.

The Bryant is a 62-unit development, offering housing and services for survivors of domestic violence. DP Group is the general contractor. Designed for the nonprofit New Destiny Housing, the building will meet the requirements of Enterprise Green Communities with EPA Energy Star Multifamily High Riser Program compliance. The project is funded by New York State Homes and Community Renewal, New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, New York City Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development, New York City Housing Authority, Hudson Housing Capital, Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, and the Corporation for Supportive Housing.

The safe, supportive community will include a multi-purpose room, a children’s room, a computer lounge, a landscaped rear yard with a children’s play area, a laundry room and library overlooking a green roof, and offices for on-site services.

 Large windows will fill apartment interiors with natural light, making the homes calming, restorative and inspiriting. Variations in exterior material and setbacks break the mass of the building lending a more contextual, community-minded feel.
