Manhattan Skyline Management brings Korean restaurant to Flatiron District; Chong of R&E Realty reps tenant, Jua

Manhattan, NY Manhattan Skyline Management Corp. has signed a lease agreement to bring Jua, a new Korean restaurant, to 36 East 22nd St. in the Flatiron District. The long-term lease is for 1,700 s/f of ground floor space with high ceilings, located at the base of a condominium known as The Story House. The space includes 1,499 s/f at the basement level and 15 ft. of frontage on East 22nd St.

Joshua Roth, vice president, retail leasing for Manhattan Skyline Mgmt. represented the landlord, while the tenant was represented by Ryan Chong of R&E Realty, Inc.

In collaboration with Hand Hospitality, Jua is one of the first solo restaurants from chef Hoyoung Kim, the former executive chef of two-Michelin-starred Jungsik. This new fine dining concept will focus on wood-fired cooking and deliver a prix-fixe, six-course tasting menu that will be ever-changing. Opening menu highlights will include squid, truffle noodles and dry-aged, smoked Long Island duck.

“We are excited to welcome Jua to the Flatiron District, where a wonderful, high-end and growing culinary mix has created an exciting draw to the neighborhood,” said Roth. “Our 22nd Street location is the perfect space for Chef Kim’s first solo project. It nicely accommodates an open kitchen, centered on the wood-burning stove, which really creates an experiential meal in a warm and inviting atmosphere.”

Designed by interior design studio Two Point Zero, Jua’s cozy and elegant dining room touts rustic and cabin-like flourishes with design materials including brick, concrete, wood and steel. There is also a seven seat bar that will offer an a la carte menu and a selection of both natural and conventional wines, and classic cocktails with Korean touches.

Neighboring tenants include Farrow & Ball, Almond, Papyrus, Cosme, Fotografiska, New York Health & Racquet Club, Obica Mozzarella Bar, Flying Tiger, Pen + Brush, Maison Kayser  and New York Kids Club.  The restaurant is also across from new luxury residential skyscrapers One Madison and Madison Square Park Tower, and within a half block from the N, R, and 6 subway lines.
