Groundbreaking held for American Packaging Company's $9.3 million, 14,000 s/f expansion project in Rochester
City Economic Development Commissioner Carlos Carballada, Monroe County executive Maggie Brooks, state and local government officials and Rochester Gas and Electric representatives recently joined Peter Schottland, president and CEO of American Packaging Company (APC) to celebrate the company's groundbreaking for a $9.3 million, 14,000 s/f expansion.
"I congratulate Peter for growing his company to become one of the top five flexible packaging converters in the U.S.," said Carballada. "I also want to thank APC for choosing to remain a city company. Providing and keeping jobs here is crucial to our mission of becoming the best midsize city in the country"
APC is a privately held, full-service, flexible packaging manufacturer with over 100 years of experience. While the company has maintained a presence in the city since the mid-1960s it chose to relocate its headquarters to Rochester in 2001. APC provides superior flexographic and rotogravure printing, extrusion and adhesive lamination of film, paper and foil, in addition to manufacturing both paper and film bags in many sizes and styles.
APC recently invested in replacing older technology to increase its abilities and capacity and will physically expand its plant by an additional 14,000 s/f to accommodate its growth and the new machinery. The total project cost for equipment and building expansion will be $9.3 million. Grants from the city, Empire State Development, Monroe County and Rochester Gas & Electric contributed to APC's decision to expand and keep its operations in the city. The company will add 25 manufacturing jobs over the next three years as a result of the expansion.
"We are excited to be expanding here in Rochester," said Schottland. "We needed to make an investment to add lamination capacity due to continued business growth. Over the years, our business model has been pretty simple: hire great people, utilize state-of-the-art technology and provide outstanding service to our customers. Based on the tremendous workforce we have in Rochester and the help provided by the local and state organizations, our choice to invest and grow at our Rochester plant made the most sense for APC. We are appreciative of all of the support we have received."
