González of LERA elected new president of Structural Engineers Association of New York

Manhattan, NY Doug González, P.E., associate partner at Leslie E. Robertson Associates (LERA), has been elected president of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) for the 2016-2017 term, having previously served in the roles of secretary and director.  González will serve SEAoNY’s 500 member chapter, which is a member organization of the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations.

González is an active member of the SEAoNY Code and Standards Committee and Membership Committee, and has served on the SEAoNY Board since 2011.

In addition, he has held the titles of secretary, vice-chair and chair for the ASCE Metropolitan Section Structures Group. He was also a member of the Structures Congress (NYC) Steering Committee in 2005 and participated in the SEAoNY IBC-NYC code comparison study and the NYC Building Department model code development program.

At LERA, González is involved in the structural design of many award-winning cultural and civic projects.

Examples of his work include the new building for Coney Island Hospital (Brooklyn), the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Riverside Park (Manhattan), the Newseum and Freedom Forum (District of Columbia), the Jacob Javits Convention Center Expansion (New York) and the Apollo Theater (New York). Currently, he is responsible for the oversight and coordination of several ongoing healthcare and adaptive reuse projects, including at the NYU Langone Medical Center, for which he is developing and managing the design of new facilities, renovations and the construction of a new tower as part of the Helen and Martin Kimmel Pavilion.

“I’m honored and eager to lead the chapter through some exciting new initiatives,” said González. “SEAoNY is an invaluable resource for structural engineers and a great liaison for the broader design and real estate community.”

González holds a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Cornell University (Ithaca) and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from The Cooper Union (New York).
