GKA-designed 162,000 s/f InterContinental Hotel property breaks ground

Queens, NY The Gene Kaufman Architect (GKA)-designed InterContinental Hotels Group property located at 38-55 11th St. officially broke ground.

The 162,000 s/f property, developed by Iron City Construction, will combine an array of amenities and include a restaurant, meeting rooms, a cellar and a rooftop terrace on the 14th floor of the 23-story complex.

The construction market in Long Island City (LIC) has substantially grown over the past few years, fueled by its rising profile as a location for culture and nightlife. LIC ranks among the most thriving arts community, with one of the highest concentrations of galleries and artist spaces of any area in the city, perfect for residents and visitors alike.

“Long Island City, by almost any measure, is one of the most booming construction locales in New York,” said GKA founder, and principal Gene Kaufman. “The sweeping views of the skyline and the easy commute to Manhattan, make Long Island City a desirable place to stay.”
