Galesi Group completes 28,500 s/f Schenectady YMCA: $3.5 million project

A new $3.5 million, 28,500 s/f YMCA facility has opened. Located inside Center City, it replaces the old Y on lower State St. The new Y features: 50 cardiovascular machines, free weights, aerobics room, spinning room, sauna and steam rooms, locker rooms and an NCAA-regulation-sized basketball court. "Having those services in a centralized location within steps of office buildings, restaurants and other attractions will be another selling point for landlords trying to fill space," said David Buicko, chief operating officer at Galesi Group. Galesi Group is currently building 50,000 s/f of class A office space next to the new facility, which is part of a $30 million-plus upgrade. "We've got a full-service community," Buicko said. "It's only the beginning." The Y was built inside a former ice skating rink, which later served as an indoor soccer field with orange-carpeted concrete steps for bleachers.
