New York, NY According to Mitti Liebersohn, Avison Young principal and president of the firm’s New York City office, Nicola Heryet has joined the company. Effective immediately, Heryet becomes a principal of Avison Young and will continue to represent both tenant and landlord clients in the leasing and strategic planning of commercial real estate assets throughout the New York City market. She brings more than 30 years of industry experience and long-standing client relationships to Avison Young, having closed more than 25 million s/f of transactions throughout her career. “Nicky is a highly respected professional throughout our industry and another invaluable addition to our already strong team,” said Liebersohn. “She possesses strong leadership skills and commercial real estate proficiency, and brings with her a long list of brand-name clients. Both our clients and team members will benefit from Nicky’s proven expertise, and we are thrilled to have her on board.” Heryet, a well-known leader in the real estate industry who has long been recognized for her achievements, was most recently a senior managing director at Cushman & Wakefield in New York. Before then, she was a principal at DTZ/Cassidy Turley and Colliers ABR.  Heryet has represented Kellwood Company, a major designer and manufacturer of premier fashion brands, for more than 20 years with the most recent transaction being a renewal of leases totaling 80,000 s/f in Manhattan. Additionally, she represented Answers Corporation in the lease of 30,000 s/f in Manhattan, a 70,000 s/f renewal in Ann Arbor, MI and leases in Tel Aviv and London. “Nicky’s leadership and participation within the real estate community, together with her ability to provide thought leadership to her long-term clients, exemplify the unique Principal-led, client-centric culture of our firm,” said Arthur Mirante, Avison Young principal and Tri-State president. “And, I know Nicky will play an integral role in our future success as we continue to boost our presence throughout the New York City market.” As the leasing agent for 654 Madison Ave., a 150,000 s/f boutique office building in the Plaza district, Heryet developed full-floor opportunities and repositioned the building, thus creating high-end, pre-built units and then leasing them to a variety of tenants. In the past five years, she has renewed existing tenants and leased to new tenants for a combined total of more than 110,000 s/f at the property. Other clients that she has serviced during her career include Avon Products, Inc., Citrix Systems, Inc., Donna Karan Company, LVMH, Lambda Legal, Securitas Security Services USA, Inc., UN Population Fun, United Federation of Teachers, Vince and the World Health Organization. Heryet is a graduate of the University of Westminster in London. She has received numerous professional recognitions, including the Real Estate Board of New York Robert T. Lawrence Memorial Award for the 740,000 s/f relocation of the United Federation of Teachers headquarters; the Young and Senior Real Estate Woman of the Year Award from the Young Men’s/Women’s Real Estate Association of New York; and was named one of the Women Real Estate Leaders for the 21st Century by Real Estate New York.  In addition to her professional accolades, Heryet has also been commended for her community leadership. She is a past co-chair and active board member of Nontraditional Employment for Women, a not-for-profit organization that prepares women for careers in construction, transportation, energy and facility maintenance industries. She is also a former President and remains an active board member of the James Lenox Housed Association, a not-for-profit community for senior living, and a board member of the New York Pops.  “I am excited for the opportunity to join a firm that has, in a short period of time, established itself as one of the premier players in the New York City real estate market and the industry as a whole,” said Heryet. “The Avison Young platform is unique and will allow me to meet the needs of my clients while providing them with additional services under our full-service model. Furthermore, the client-focused, silo-free approach will benefit all of my clients, and I look forward to working side-by-side with the other Principals and team members in New York and across the company.”
