Harney and Nahmias of Stalco Construction named 2009 Men of the Year

Old Westbury, N Y The Marty Lyons Foundation named Stalco Construction, Inc.'s principal Kevin Harney and president Alan Nahmias the 2009 Men of The Year. The ceremony took place at the Old Westbury Golf & Country Club during the 24th Marty Lyons Celebrity Golf Classic. During the event, Harney and Nahmias donated $10,000 to The Marty Lyons Foundation. Marty Lyons, founder and chairman of The Marty Lyons Foundation, praised Harney and Nahmias for embracing the organization's efforts to enrich the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses and for co-founding a non-profit Contractors for Kids, Inc. "Our foundation is very fortunate to have friends like Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias," said Lyons. "Together, we will continue to enhance the lives of children in the years to come." "We are honored by the recognition from The Marty Lyons Foundation. We admire the selfless effort and work that Marty Lyons has devoted to improving the lives of seriously ill children for nearly three decades. He is a role model in our endeavor, through Contractors for Kids, to help children and families that face health-related hardships," said Harney. "The Marty Lyons Foundation is a remarkable organization. I am very proud that together we have been able to make a difference in the lives of children and families of Long Island," added Nahmias. Co-founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias, Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a Long Island-based non-profit that assists families struck by a serious childhood illness. The organization has attracted enthusiastic support from over 300 builders, architects, real estate firms, and other businesses. In the first four years of existence, CFK has raised nearly $2 million from its supporters and financially assisted over 150 families of children in need of surgeries, long-term medical care, and therapy. CFK offers help beyond payment of medical bills, including reimbursements of travel costs related to cutting-edge treatments unavailable locally and aid to families unable to submit mortgage payments due to healthcare-related expenses. It also assists parents faced with the heartbreaking task of making funeral arrangements for their children. The organization is supported by individual and corporate donations, and holds frequent corporate and family fundraisers. CFK's events include black-tie dinner dances, walk-a-thons, golf outings, concerts, and annual family picnics. More than 2,000 families attended last year's Contractors For Kids Family Picnic.
