E-J Electric Installation Co. (E-J) has been commissioned to perform a full scope of electrical services for the Central Energy Plant at Columbia University's Manhattanville Campus, located at Broadway and 129th St. The Central Energy Plant is one of the first buildings to be constructed in Columbia University's Manhattanville Campus, and will provide essential services such as the power, heat and cooling necessary for the operation of the other buildings. Columbia is building the new Manhattanville Campus on the Upper West Side of Manhattan as part of its major expansion over the next 15 years. The project is being performed as a joint venture by E-J and Egg Electric under construction manager Lend Lease (U.S.) Construction LMB, Inc. The companies will furnish and install four new 13kV medium voltage primary electrical service distribution systems, as well as the secondary 13kV medium voltage distribution apparatus.
These systems will provide power for the Central Energy Plant as well as the Jerome Greene Science Center (also known as the Mind Brain Building), which is being constructed adjacent to the plant. E-J and Egg Electric will also supply the remaining distribution equipment within the plant, as well as the core and shell lighting, power and connection of mechanical equipment.
The project, scheduled to take place from this January through June 2015, will be led by project executive Alan Doubert, major projects senior vice president Frank Lambraia, as well as project manager Enna Sharma of Egg Electric.
