Destiny USA - Syracuse, NY

Destiny USA celebrated its two-year LEED anniversary, achieved on February 6, 2012, by showcasing its 50 tenants who have achieved LEED certification. Destiny USA was formally recognized as the largest LEED Gold certified commercial building in the world in 2012 when it achieved certification from the USGBC. Rick Fedrizzi, USGBC president, presented Destiny USA owner and founder Bob Congel with the award, stating the project was "a tremendous model for other retail and commercial enterprises for whom sustainable construction and development are operational imperatives."
"It's amazing to hit these milestones and continue to see venues throughout the facility go above and beyond in participating in our recycling and composting programs and achieving LEED certification," Rob Schoeneck, general manager of Destiny USA said. "We're thrilled to present the Green Recycler of the Year award this year to Best Buy, a deserving tenant in our legacy space."
To date, Destiny USA and its venues have composted more than 800,000 lbs of material. More than two dozen venues participate in the composting program, which launched in July 2012 and is spearheaded by Destiny USA's housekeeping manager, Dee Ingersoll. Ingersoll, who's worked for the facility for six years, is currently coordinating an Earth Day focused event to showcase the recycling and composting efforts happening everyday on site, while educating the community on how to pursue more sustainable behaviors.
