CodeGreen Solutions hosts Electric Vehicle Experience and Educational Event at the Tesla Showroom in New York City
Esteemed members of the New York City commercial real estate community gathered on August 22nd at the Tesla showroom in Chelsea for sustainability consulting firm CodeGreen Solutions' "Electric Vehicle Experience." The event introduced top real estate owners and managers to Motor Trend's 2013 Car of the Year, the Tesla Model S - where attendees were also invited to take the sexy EVs for a spin around the city.
The event featured a panel discussion with three industry experts - Ari Kahn, a policy adviser for electric vehicles in New York City Mayor's Office of Long-term Planning and Sustainability, Stephen Marlin, a GM veteran and Principal at Sustainable Transportation Initiatives, LLC and John Shipman, the head of Con Edison's Electric Vehicle Programs. The panel, entitled "EV City: How Electric Vehicle Technology is Changing Infrastructure (and Life) in NYC," was moderated by CodeGreen's Stephen Rizzo, and explored a wide range of topics from the basics of electric vehicle charging to how property owners can benefit from installing chargers and even how EVs might be harnessed in the future to create energy for homes and buildings.
In addition to learning about the past, present and future of electric vehicles and the impacts they are having on New York City, guests of the event were treated to a menu of light bites created by M&G Caterers - known for their use of fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. The selection included delicacies such as a semolina wafer with Long Island scallop ceviche, tarragon-scented goat curd tartlets with heirloom tomatoes from Eckerton Hill Farm, PA and ice cream made in Brooklyn, NY. The red and white wines served at the cocktail hour were also sourced locally from Long Island, NY. Aside from being a treat for the tastebuds of guests, the menu served to highlight the benefits of locally-sourced foods and beverages, which save fuel, cut down on CO2 emissions and oftentimes happen to taste much better than their far-trucked counterparts.
"This is really a pivotal time in the industry, with many types of sustainable technologies developing across multiple industries. In the building industry, we're seeing sustainable strategies such as demand response, energy management systems, and even onsite co-generation implemented in buildings to reduce building's carbon footprint and operate in a more sustainable manner. It's exciting to see the auto industry excel towards providing a sustainable electric option to the everyday population", said Stephen Rizzo, co-founder of CodeGreen Solutions.
