Teresa Carleo, president and founder of Plant Fantasies Inc. (PFI), a landscape contractor and landscape design firm, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Horticultural Society of New York (The Hort). The Hort's executive director, Sara Hobel, said, "Teresa's life work reflects The Hort's mission. As a woman entrepreneur who built a successful full-service landscape business, she is a role model for the diverse group, including many women and minorities, we train for careers in horticulture. Teresa is at the forefront of helping our city become more sustainable through innovative landscape design and installation, including green roofs. She has generously supported The Hort through the contribution of plants and floral displays for many years. We are lucky to have her leadership, knowledge and insight as our new trustee." Mary Van Pelt, board chairman of The Hort, says of Carleo, "Teresa is a known leader in our field. She is committed, displays wonderful leadership ability, is highly enthusiastic about her work and our goals, and is an impressive businessperson with strong professional experience as well. We are lucky to have her." Carleo said, "I am honored to have been chosen to represent this highly prestigious and esteemed organization. My passion for my work has guided me at PFI for 25 years. To have my efforts recognized by The Hort is incredible and deeply gratifying." Founded over 110 years ago, The Hort's stated mission is "to sustain the vital connection between people and plants." Incorporating the latest information on "green" issues, it represents a growing community of urban gardeners who inform and educate the public on the many ways that plants and gardens benefit the health of people, wildlife and the environment. PFI is a full-service landscape contractor and landscape design company offering green roof design and installation, maintenance, floral designs and holiday decorations. Serving many of New York City's prime properties, it is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012.
