Brookhaven has become the only stop when starting, expanding or relocating your business.
Brookhaven has room to grow, with over 1,500 acres of ready to build prime industrial sites including over eight industrial parks zoned L-1, which is home to Stony Brook Technology Center and our 235 acres Research and Design Park in Shirley. Our Empire Zone encompasses 1,280 acres in total with over 5,000 acres of prime industrial sites for development.
Our industrial parks, with their campus-like settings, are located on or near main thoroughfares such as the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway; most facilities/sites are equipped with sewage connections, water and electric.
Brookhaven also offers special tax incentives to businesses through the Empire Zone program. In addition, businesses can benefit from the town's Industrial Development Agency, which offers real property tax abatements, mortgage recording tax exemptions and full sales tax exemptions and much more!
Let's not forget the highly skilled, educated and motivated workforce available. Brookhaven is home to top-ranked universities, including Stony Brook University, one of the most prestigious state institutions in the nation and the world renowned Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Brookhaven also offers a groundbreaking Workforce Development Program that performs the recruitment, screening and interviewing prospective employees to fit the needs of incoming businesses. In addition, the Town has a vibrant Small Business Advisory Council that acts as resource to the over 1,700 small business in Brookhaven
Brookhaven Town has over 15 Industrial Development Agency projects in our pipeline, with over $100 million of investment. Clare Rose, one of the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributors in the United States is currently building a 270,000 s/f building on 34 acres, and Pallets-R-Us Inc., the region's biggest wooden pallet producer and recycler is currently building a 115,000 s/f headquarters. Two new hotels are also being built within both Empire Zones in the town, to serve businesses and their clients.
The Town of Brookhaven's Division of Economic Development assists companies in identifying new sites for relocation or expansion, locating skilled and unskilled employees, fast-tracking all necessary permits and accessing the many Federal, State and local programs that are geared toward businesses. Our town website's "Business with Brookhaven" section details the advantages of empire zones, Industrial Development Agency assistance, as well as guides for small business
The goal of economic development is to build the Town of Brookhaven as the home to many businesses, its owner and workforce. Help us keep your family and business affordable and in its rightful place on Long Island.
