Brookhaven IDA honored by Long Island Business News

Long Island Business News has honored the town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency with its award for the IDA of the Year in Suffolk. The award, presented at an April 21st ceremony at the Crest Hollow Country Club, recognized the long list of projects that the agency assisted in 2014, a banner year for the Brookhaven IDA. The IDA completed 12 projects with a total investment in the town of $121.45 million. These projects together helped to retain or create over 2,200 jobs. A notable project assisted by the Brookhaven IDA in 2014 was the $55 million WinCoram Commons mixed-used development that is being undertaken by the not-for-profit Community Development Corp. of L.I. and Conifer Realty of Rochester. The project will feature 176 workforce apartments and 13,300 s/f of commercial space at the site of a former multiplex on Route 112, transforming a community eyesore into a local economic engine. The project will help meet the need for rental housing. Other IDA projects include a new Homewood Suites Hotel to be built by Sayville Browning Properties in Ronkonkoma, new buildings for MS Packaging and Islandaire and a solar installation at the Clare Rose distribution facility in Yaphank. "I commend the IDA for receiving this well deserved award from Long Island Business News," said Brookhaven town supervisor Ed Romaine. "Their efforts to encourage business development in Brookhaven have been very successful, and despite the sluggish economy, they have helped to create thousands of employment opportunities for our residents. I look forward to working with IDA in the coming years as we continue to improve the state of our local economy." "Brookhaven Supervisor Edward Romaine has tasked us with creating jobs and spurring the town's economy. Our results last year demonstrated that we have accomplished a great deal," said Brookhaven IDA chairman Frederick Braun III. "We are grateful that Long Island Business News has recognized the efforts of our board and the IDA's hard-working staff." When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
