Brookhaven IDA assists McKeon Rolling Steel Door Co. in expansion with incentive package

Bellport, NY According to Frederick Braun III, chairman of the town of Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA), The Agency has closed on a package of economic incentives that will assist McKeon Rolling Steel Door Co., Inc. expand in the area. 

McKeon Rolling Steel Door Co. plans to build a 30,000 s/f, second building at a cost of $3 million near its current 57,159 s/f facility at 44 Sawgrass Dr. 

The company has three additional locations throughout the country and indicated that it would consider moving out of state without the IDA assistance.

The benefits package was approved by the IDA in July 2017 and closed on Dec. 21.  

McKeon, which manufactures rolling doors, grilles, fire doors and specialty custom engineered closures, currently employs 68 people in the town and plans to add 10 new jobs within two years of the project’s completion.

“We are pleased that McKeon is expanding within the town of Brookhaven and bringing new jobs to our town instead of moving out of state,” said Braun.

“This expansion will help us dig our roots strategically deeper into the Northeast region and accommodate the increase in real estate construction, development, modernization and the resulting demand for our customized products,” said the company’s owner and president, Joseph McKeon.  “With the economic development assistance of the IDA and the efforts of our local attorney, Andrew Presberg, the overall project became more affordable. It enticed us to stay and build rather than relocate our entire Northeast operation.” 

McKeon Rolling Steel Door Co., Inc., which was founded in 1946 and moved to the area from Brooklyn in 2008 with assistance from the IDA, 

Since 1971, the mission of the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency has been to promote the economic welfare and prosperity of the Town of Brookhaven by assisting in the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, and equipping of commercial and industrial facilities. The IDA has issued millions of dollars in tax-exempt or taxable bonds and provided assistance through straight lease deals to encourage companies to either locate or expand in the Town of Brookhaven. This assistance has been extended to companies both large and small, and has resulted in the direct creation of thousands of jobs for Brookhaven residents. The IDA has provided assistance to a wide range of companies, including Tate’s, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Precision International, LI Precast, Uncle Wally’s, and Framerica.
