Williston Park, NY John Biordi, MAI, of First Republic Bank has been elected president of the Long Island Chapter of the Appraisal Institute for 2020. Serving Nassau and Suffolk counties, the chapter assists real estate appraisers to earn Appraisal Institute professional membership designations and provides appraisal education and networking to the real estate and related industries.
Biordi will lead the chapter to provide relevant and interesting education and events for commercial and residential appraisers; share ideas, expertise and experience locally, regionally and nationally; work with other NYS chapters on state regulatory issues; support candidate members and continue to bring attention to various scholarship opportunities; look for opportunities to bring new people into the profession, while bringing awareness to AI designations; utilize social media outlets and introduce podcasts to benefit chapter members and the public, and facilitate a welcoming, inviting atmosphere for all our members and prospective members.
Biordi, who earned his MAI designation in 2013, has been a member of the Chapter’s Executive Board since 2014.
In addition, he has spearheaded the Technology & Social Media Committee, which has increased the chapter’s activity on various social media platforms and revamped the chapter website to better serve members. He has also served the Long Island Chapter as region representative, program chair, treasurer, and is an active member of the Government Relations Committee, traveling to Washington, D.C. as a chapter representative. Biordi is a certified general NYS appraiser, and has been active as a commercial appraiser on Long Island and the Metropolitan New York Area for 15 years.
Additional officers elected by the chapter for 2020 include senior vice president Howard Morris, SRA, vice president Anne Sheehan, MAI, treasurer Hector Nieves, MAI, AI-GRS and Donald Franklin, MAI.
The Appraisal Institute has developed the largest body of real estate appraisal knowledge in the world. Appraisal Institute education is provided in coordination with our National office in the form of structured courses, full or half day seminars and Dinner Meetings, which fulfill state continuing education requirements and provide a forum for exploring new topics and networking. Through the Candidate Advisor program, members are assisted in achieving their designated appraiser goals.
