Axis Construction Corp. recognized for three awards at the Modular Building Institute’s 2019 Awards of Distinction

Hauppauge, NY For 25 years, Axis Construction Corp. has been recognized as an innovator in construction, design, and management services – consistently raising the industry standard for the building community. Axis has been honored with numerous awards in the past and has recently been awarded three more.

Axis, a provider of construction management, design-build, and general contracting services, has also become a leader in modular off-site construction. As such, Axis has been recognized with three awards in the Modular Building Institute’s (MBI) 2019 Awards of Distinction competition. The ceremony, held during the World of Modular Annual Convention & Tradeshow in Las Vegas, NV was attended by over 1,000 modular construction professionals from more than 25 countries.

Axis took home “The Best in Show” award for Permanent Modular Building, as voted on by the attendees of the conference; first prize in the Permanent Modular Health Care category; and an honorable mention in the Multimedia category for its Gotham Health Family Health Clinic modular building, built in Staten Island for New York City Health & Hospitals Corp. The family health center is one of the first new healthcare facilities constructed on Staten Island in over 10 years and is located in a neighborhood that has the greatest and most convenient access to mass transit for patients and staff. The modular approach allowed NYC to open the clinic over nine months ahead of what conventional construction would have allowed, ensuring the community had access to a new state of the art facility with minimal delay. Clinical programs contained within this LEED Silver facility include pediatrics, women’s health, ophthalmology, podiatry, radiology (x-ray, ultrasound, mammography), diabetes care as well as behavioral health. Axis was awarded this design/build contract and the structure was built utilizing 59 modules in order to meet the fast-track schedule. It is a two-story building, 20,000 s/f, type II (steel frame – noncombustible) equipped with a fully automatic fire sprinkler system.

During construction of the clinic, Axis partnered with modular manufacturer NRB-USA, Inc. based in New Holland, PA to fabricate and deliver the modular building. Axis also engaged Westchester, NY-based production company TimeLine Video to produce a video highlighting the modular construction process. With a focus on turnaround speed as well as quality and safety of modular construction, the video won the honorable mention prize in the Marketing Piece-Multimedia category.

“This year’s Awards of Distinction contest was very competitive, with over one hundred sixty entries overall,” said Tom Hardiman executive director of the MBI. “Our panel of independent judges had some tough choices to make, so I congratulate Axis Construction on winning these awards.”

The evolving relationship of environmental consultants and the lending community - by Chuck Merritt

When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
