Troy, NY According to 3tarchitects (3t) and McKinney MacDonald Architects (MMA), the two firms have merged. The newly merged entity will practice under the retained company name of 3tarchitects. MMA brings decades of experience and unique expertise to 3t while maintaining the high level of excellence clients have come to expect from both award-winning firms. MMA’s staff members will join 3t in their current offices located in Downtown Troy immediately. “We are a nimble architectural design firm always seeking out better ways to deliver exceptional results for our clients,” said Scott Townsend, partner and design director at 3t. “Now, we will be able to offer more diverse experience through a wider array of project types accompanied by seasoned professionals. 3t has always wanted to break into the Higher Education market; merging with one of the top firms in the area is a great way to do just that. Anything we can do to increase our knowledge and collective skillsets are only going to further what we are capable of doing for our clients.” MMA and 3t share a similar philosophy of ensuring personalized service and collaborative team efforts with, and on behalf of, their clients. This philosophy is at the heart of each of their respective design processes and service platforms. The two firms have worked together on several projects in the past as well. “Our personalized services are only going to get better with this move,” said Geoffrey MacDonald, now a partner and Studio Director at 3t. “Both 3t and MMA have always delivered high-quality work and impeccable results for our clients and, similar to 3t, we are looking forward to expanding into different market sectors. Merging with 3t is a natural move for both our firms, and our clients are going to reap the rewards of this union.” 3t is known for diverse project types through a collaborative oriented design process. Their portfolio includes project types such as multi-unit residential, retail and hospitality, offices, mixed-use and planning, just to name a few. MMA has a diverse portfolio of higher education projects, working with local institutions such as Union College, Siena College, and the College of Saint Rose as well as Clarkson University, Dartmouth College and St. Lawrence University. The two firms have won National, State and a plethora of regional and local design awards for a variety of project types that range from the Hospitality & Retail sector to Planning and Residential, including Student Housing projects. MMA’s Jim McKinney, while transitioning into retirement, will serve as counsel to 3t as needed moving forward, bringing with him decades of experience, expertise and the strong relationships he’s built throughout the years. “The opportunity to fuse with a like-minded, equally talented firm who brings a diverse portfolio doesn’t always come up,” said Townsend. “Moreover each of our strengths complement one another which naturally expands the opportunities and experience we can offer our clients. It’s a win-win-win situation,” said MacDonald. 3t and MMA will finish their merger in January 2016, shortly before 3t celebrates its 10-year anniversary of operation in the Greater Capital Region.
