2023 Women in CRE: Monique Henley, Lendlease

Monique Henley
Executive GM, East Coast Development
Lendlease

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? We recently broke ground on 1 Java St., a 36-story, 834-unit rental community in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint neighborhood. Pushing the boundaries when it comes to sustainability, 1 Java St. is an all-electric building designed to meet or exceed Local Laws 97 and 154. The property will feature the largest residential geothermal system in the state, employing a vertical closed-loop system that will reduce annual carbon emissions from heating and cooling by 53% compared to conventional systems.

Why should this nominee be recognized in our Women in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight? “Recognized for her vast development expertise, Monique is also a champion for women in real estate, particularly women of color. This commitment extends beyond her role at Lendlease to the broader CRE community, which has benefitted from the mentorship she provides to next-generation professionals and her work on industry committees.” - Hillary Birch Vanaria, Senior Development Marketing Manager, East Coast Region at Lendlease.

Who inspires you most? What qualities do they possess that inspire you? While the industry can do far more to foster representation, women at all levels inspire me – especially those in leadership positions mentoring the next generation.

What are the most important factors women in your industry should consider when choosing a firm to build their career with? Women in CRE should seek firms where managers are invested in their career trajectory. Many women are drawn to companies that prioritize DE&I and innovation.
