2023 Women in CRE: Michelle Bernstein, Miter Construction

Michelle Bernstein
Founder, President
Miter Construction

What recent project, transaction, or accomplishment are you most proud of? I take great pride in founding Miter Construction in 2014, a small yet formidable woman-owned firm specializing in general contracting and construction management. Miter received WBE certification in 2018 and is dedicated to providing top quality customer service on every project. Prior to establishing Miter, I became the first female in my family to join the general contracting company founded by my great-grandfather in 1905. To build upon his legacy with my own successful firm makes me most proud.

Who inspires you most? What qualities do they possess that inspire you? My father is my greatest inspiration. His ability to juggle building a business while at the same time consistently giving back in a multitude of ways inspires me every day.

Why should this nominee be recognized in our Women in Commercial Real Estate Spotlight? “Michelle Bernstein deserves nomination as a leading woman in commercial real estate for her exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication in advancing the industry while empowering women to excel.” - Cristina Allen, Owner of Cristina Allen Communications.

What are the most important factors women in your industry should consider when choosing a firm to build their career with? When choosing a general contracting firm for your career, I would consider the firm’s workplace culture; opportunities for mentorship and career advancement; and pay equality.
