2022 Industry Leaders: Nancy Colella, NYS Sustainable Corp.

Nominee’s Name & Job Title: Nancy Colella, Principal

Nominee’s Company/Affiliation: NYS Sustainable Corp.

Nominee’s City & State of Employment: Oysterbay, Long Island - New York

What is your management style?

My management style is directly interested and always involved, from the finite details at the point of introduction for a renewable project to the completion and delivery of the project’s integration.

What advice would you give the next generation of leaders in your industry?

My advice is always the same—make your own path, become specialized, engage, understand the behavior and need of the market and adapt your business to one that delivers a competitive advantage.

What was the most difficult experience you have encountered as a leader?

NYS Sustainable Corp. is a very progressive firm. As a business owner, my most difficult experience is not being acknowledged with value or respect—as my firm works diligently to build a comprehensive proposal to benefit, bring value and save tremendous amounts of CAPEX on behalf of commercial ownership.

What aspect of your position do you find most challenging?

Being a leader does not allow for much downtime and it can be overwhelming, but it also provides tremendous satisfaction when my projects are complete and are offering great benefits to the environment and positive economic contributions on behalf of my client.

What leadership role outside of the workplace is most rewarding to you?

Leadership roles are designated to supporting and giving back to children, the underprivileged, and progressive community outreach concerns.

Describe what you would consider to be ONE of your top career highlights:

Before I started NYS Sustainable Corp., I had always been around the commercial real estate industry community. After five years, as the principal of my firm, my community now offers me accolades and introduces me to new relationships and opportunities. This is a major career highlight for my firm and I am proud to have reached this level of recognition, benchmarking my presence as WOMBE in the Green sector.

What award were you most proud to receive?

No rewards as of late, but working towards a woman owned minority ‘clean energy’ business of distinction.
