Which of your philanthropic endeavors are you most proud of?
For those of us who are “seasoned” members of this industry, I can’t imagine anything more satisfying than mentoring the next generation and helping them achieve their goals with scholarships. The NYC Brownfield Partnership and the Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast (BCONE) each offer generous scholarships to the next generation of redevelopment professionals–undergraduate and graduate students–who have declared their majors in the myriad of fields that work in the Brownfields redevelopment industry. Both scholarship programs were established to honor the memories of urban redevelopment professionals who left us too soon. The Partnership scholarship honors Abbey Duncan, a young professional who was an avid environmentalist, talented dancer, and tireless community supporter. BCONE’s scholarship honors Charlie Bartsch, the nation’s passionate voice promoting the importance of Brownfield remediation and redevelopment, the leading guru on how to assemble a variety of state and federal incentives to enhance projects of interest to the community, and well-loved Brownfields industry advocate.

Tax deductible contributions to the scholarship funds can be made on the websites:

https://nycbrownfieldpartnership.org/ and https://www.brownfieldcoalitionne.org/

In addition to contributions, scholarship funds are raised throughout the year at networking events such as holiday gatherings or spin classes.
