Name: Jessica Stanton

Title: Associate

Company Name: Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP

Year that you entered your current field? 2013

What do you consider to be your greatest professional accomplishment in the past 12 months?

In January 2019, The New York Post awarded a Golden Brick Award to a transaction that I worked on with partners Samuel Ross, Hyman Kindler and Dov Brandstatter. The transaction was between 390 Tower Associates LLC, an affiliate of Omnispective, a Korein family company and Waterman Interests, LLC in its joint venture with a Brookfield-managed real estate fund for the long-term leasehold of the historic Lever House at 390 Park Avenue. I represented the ground lessor and assisted in the drafting and negotiation of the ground lease, as well as facilitating the closing of the ground lease.

What advice can you offer to someone who is interested in a career in your industry?

My advice to someone who is interested in becoming a commercial real estate attorney is to gain as much practical experience as you can before leaving law school. Take advantage of any transactional skills classes as are available and keep up with the real estate market as best as you can. The best commercial real estate attorneys are those that understand the business side of the deal as well, and that’s something that’s not generally taught in law school.

Who or what do you attribute to your success?

I attribute my success to being willing to push myself, to continually wanting to learn more about the real estate industry and to being motivated to be involved in important and interesting commercial real estate deals. I also attribute my success to being fortunate enough to have had mentors at different stages of my career that have not only been extremely competent in what they do but who have also prioritized helping me to develop my own career.
